HORS DU CADRE

Taureau (Bull) III is the fourth painting in a series of works by Le Corbusier, stemming from his analysis of a previous painting by himself completed in 1920 known as “Still Life with a Violin.” The spatial ambiguity of this original painting caused Le Corbusier to reinterpret the composition into this new set of extremely abstracted paintings. Bull III is one of the most abstracted of the Bull series, and allows for further investigation into the hierarchies of color and linework put onto the canvas. These hierarchies can further be investigated through the generation of form. With the use of digital tools, phyiscal analytical models can be created as a part of this investigation. Each iteration’s shift of materiality and approach further contributing to bringing the painting’s initial composition into tangible ideas about space and form.
